National Museum of China
The National Museum of China is a very large comprehensive museum bringing together China’s ancient history and the story of its modern rejuvenation. It holds a staggering collection of 1.2 million pieces of cultural relics. It is like reading a living textbook.
The museum is divided into five floors, with a total of 48 exhibition halls. The exhibition hall is very large in size and has a large number of exhibits, including rare national treasures.
You can easily spend half a day here.
“Ancient China”: Through the ancient and modern millennium
After entering the museum, head straight to the “Ancient China” exhibition hall on the ground floor. The exhibits here are arranged in the order of the era from ancient times to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Like a general history of China, the essence of the whole country is here. When you visit, remember to enter from the entrance of the preface hall on the north side of the exhibition hall, so that you can browse sequentially from ancient times.
Bronze Exhibition: Appreciate the pinnacle of the Bronze Age
From “Ancient China”, take the elevator to the “Ancient Chinese Bronze Art” exhibition hall located in the central hall of the third floor. Here you will find many very special artifacts from China’s Bronze Age.
The Road of Rejuvenation
If you are interested in modern and contemporary history, it is recommended to go to the “The Road of Rejuvenation” exhibition hall on the first and second floors. The exhibits here are also arranged in chronological order, which is the epitome from the Opium War to the modern society. In addition, in the collection of modern classic artworks on the first floor.
Other exhibition halls
You can continue to browse other special exhibitions on the third floor, including Buddha statues, jade articles, coins, porcelain, etc., and choose several interesting tours.
There is a tea room and a café on the first floor of the museum. You can have a little bit of something to eat here, and some shops can buy some simple meals like sandwiches.
Entry to the museum is free, although some special exhibitions inside may have a fee.
Attractions nearby
After visiting the National Museum, you can continue to see the Monument to the People’s Heroes, the Great Hall of the People and other attractions in Tiananmen Square. If it is the end of the afternoon, you can wait for the flag-raising ceremony on Tiananmen Square. Go to Qianmen Street at night and eat Quanjude Roast Duck.
